Effective date: 17.11.2025
All artworks created and published by Sisumo Oy — including AI-assisted images, prints, textual descriptions, prompts, intermediate outputs, and associated metadata — are the exclusive property of Sisumo Oy and protected under the Finnish Copyright Act (404/1961).
Although AI tools are used in the creative workflow, each artwork contains substantial human creative input, including prompt design, curation, refinement, composition, and material modification.
This human contribution is intended to ensure that each artwork meets the originality threshold required under Section 1 of the Copyright Act.
Unauthorized reproduction, distribution, modification, public display, publication, resale, or any other use beyond personal display is prohibited unless expressly permitted in writing.
(Ref. Copyright Act §§1–2, 11, 49a)
Moral rights remain with the human creator acting through Sisumo Oy, including:
the right to be acknowledged as the author (§3(1))
the right to object to derogatory treatment of the work that harms the creator’s honor or reputation (§3(2))
These rights cannot be waived in general but may be limited for specific uses as allowed by law.
Sisumo Oy maintains timestamped records of:
prompts and iterations
version history
metadata and creation logs
intermediate images
final renders
These records may be used to establish authorship, creative origin, and copyright validity under Finnish and international law.
(Ref. §§1–3, §53)
Copyright protection arises automatically upon creation of an original work (§1).
Economic rights and moral rights remain with the creator unless contractually transferred (§27).
Copyright lasts for 70 years after the end of the year of the author’s death (§43).
For works not meeting the originality threshold, related rights may apply (see section 5).
If an AI-assisted image does not qualify as a copyrighted “work,” it may still be protected under the Act on the Right in Photographic Pictures (405/1961).
This includes photographic-style images produced under human direction.
Protection lasts 50 years from creation or publication (§1, 405/1961).
Unauthorized use may constitute:
civil copyright infringement (injunctions, damages, compensation), and
criminal copyright offense under the Finnish Criminal Code (Rikoslaki 39/1889, Chapter 49).
Penalties may include fines or, in severe cases, imprisonment.
(Ref. Criminal Code Chapter 49 §§1–2)
Finnish copyright law provides certain mandatory exceptions, including:
private use (§12)
temporary copying (§11a)
quotation rights (§22)
These exceptions:
do not authorize commercial use, redistribution, or publication
require proper attribution
prohibit unnecessary modification of the work
(Ref. §§11–22)
If a customer provides personal data (e.g., photos, names, likenesses) for custom artwork, Sisumo Oy processes this data in accordance with GDPR.
Personal inputs are used only to create the commissioned artwork.
Data is not reused, shared, or used for AI training without explicit consent.
Data is stored only as required to fulfill the order.
(Ref. GDPR Articles 5, 6, 13)
Sisumo Oy retains all rights granted under Directive (EU) 2019/790, including:
